Caregiver Advocacy Program

Due to overwhelming demand, registration for the Caregiver Advocacy Program is now closed. If you're interested in being put on the list for any possible future offerings of the program, please reach out to Heather at caregiving@pitt.edu.

NCFS is excited to launch our Caregiver Advocacy Program. We’re looking for caregivers who are interested in becoming involved in advocacy and learning how to tell their story to join our new program!

The Caregiver Advocacy Program is a virtual workshop that will empower unpaid family caregivers of people with disabilities, mental illness, chronic conditions, cancer, or people who are aging. Caregivers will learn about caregiving-related policies, and how to use their experiences to tell their story and advocate for change. Caregivers don’t need to be policy experts to take part – just interested in learning more about advocacy.

We understand that as caregivers, your lives are busy and free time is limited. Our sessions will be virtual and offered both in daytime and evening sessions for scheduling flexibility.

Participants will learn the basics of how laws are written and passed, how caregiving intersects with the policy-making process, how to contact and meet with legislators, how to tell their story to advocate for change, and more. By the end of our program, they’ll have something tangible to share with legislators or advocacy groups.
